Some Painted Wood Constructions

Here are some painted wood constructions done by Kindergarteners and First graders. They represent the culmination of this 14 week residency where children explored paper and ways to change paper to moving conceptually from what paper can do two dimensionally to exploring three dimensional forms, how they can be constructed, viewed and organized through arrangement. In addition paint was briefly explored not only for its spreading qualities and as a way to make new colors, but also as a way to pick out 3D forms and transform by design the base. Each child was able to follow a multi-stage process to create art works and use images and concepts as vehicles for thinking critically as problem solvers who can sustain and persist, take risks and exercise their imagination.
